Health & Safety
When visiting us, we ask that you please read and follow these conditions so that everyone visiting has an enjoyable and safe experience.
Oils & Coals
- If you plan on using aromatherapy or essential oils, please check with a member of staff and your sauna companions first, as they can affect other customers’ safety.
- Do not pour oils directly onto the coals, as this can cause a fire.
- Add a few drops of oil to a ladle, before gently pouring onto the coals.
- We advise you to pour slowly, furthest away from you, gently bringing the pour towards you – this is so you do not scold yourself from the steam.
- Do not put any flammable materials on or near the coals.
- In case of fire, do not throw water onto the flames or attempt to tackle it yourself. Leave immediately and inform one of our attendants.
Cold Water Immersion
- Showering before using the plunges helps lower your body temperature before immersion – and reduces the risk of hypothermia.
- We strongly advise against “head-dunking”.
- You should use the plunges for no more than three minutes, unless you have built up a tolerance to cold water immersion.
- We currently offer a solo tub set to 5°c, and two tubs set to 10°c.
- Please note temperatures can vary due to weather conditions and frequent usage.
- If you feel any pain, or loss of sensation, we advise you to leave the baths and warm up in the sauna.
Overheating & Dehydration
- Remember to hydrate before, during and after using the sauna.
- Be mindful of the sauna stove and surfaces in the sauna, they’ll be extremely hot!
- If you are feeling unwell, dizzy or faint, please listen to your body and take a break outside of the sauna until you feel better.
- This is an alcohol and drug-free space. Being intoxicated in the sauna is dangerous as it can increase the risk of dehydration, overheating, and impair your ability to recognise signs of distress.
- Please refrain from smoking or vaping whilst at Bristol Community Sauna.
If you’re ever in doubt about someone’s safety or wellbeing, please come and find a member of staff immediately.
